AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine media outlets have given a lot of ink to former two-term governor and now independent U.S. Senate candidate Angus King in the last few days.
But King is starting to get some press nationally as well.
A Washington Post piece published this week — shortly after King announced that he would seek the seat that will be vacated by Olympia Snowe — boldly calls King “the most important Senate candidate in the country.”
As more and more Americans become frustrated by the partisan politics typified by the major parties, can someone like King emerge as a moderate voice in a Congress that has few moderate voices?
It’s probably too early to crown King the winner since we still don’t know who his Democratic and Republican opponents will be. But it appears Mainers are not the only ones intrigued by the possibility of another independent in the Senate.
