Republican Sen. Roger Katz and former House Speaker Hannah Pingree will air a weekly TV show, starting tonight.

The two politicos will co-host “Pingree & Katz — The Maine Event” each Tuesday at 7 p.m. on Time Warner Cable’s public access channel, during which they will interview guests and offer competing partisan takes on issues such as welfare reform, legalized weed and gun control, according to a press release.

Judging by photos on the show’s Facebook page, “The Maine Event” is shot entirely in front of a green screen. The results are … intense. Check it out.

Katz is currently the assistant Senate minority leader and Pingree was a representative from House District 36 for eight years, including two years as speaker, until being term limited in 2010’s election.

The two have a few things in common: Both are children of former Maine Senate majority leaders, and both have been rumored to have higher political aspirations. A successful and well-liked TV show could help raise their respective profiles, and good on-screen chemistry between the Augusta Republican and North Haven Democrat could give each greater stature as bipartisan leader.

The first episode airs tonight, and features advocates and opponents of legalized marijuana. Looks like an upcoming episode will feature Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves, according to this tweet from his spokeswoman. And man, just check out that green screen.
