Rick Bennett, chairman of the Maine Republican Party, said in a press release issued late Saturday that Paul is a “perfect fit” for the Maine convention.

“I can’t think of a better national figure to speak at our convention to the issues of individual liberty and economic prosperity than Senator Rand Paul,” Bennett said.

Paul, a first-term senator from Kentucky, is a well-known libertarian figure and son of ex-Texas congressman and perennial Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Both the state Republican and Democratic conventions will be at the new Cross Insurance Center in Bangor this year. Republicans will convene from April 25-26, while Democrats will meet from May 30-31.
