New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, will return to Maine a third time on Oct. 14 for a private fundraiser for Gov. Paul LePage’s re-election campaign.
Christie has already brought his big name and fundraising prowess to Maine twice this year: He appeared with LePage at public and private appearances in Portland in May, and Bangor in August. Christie has pledged as much support as needed to see LePage fend off challenges from Democrat Mike Michaud and independent Eliot Cutler.
While LePage’s campaign confirmed Christie would be in attendance in Lewiston, it was other high-profile Republicans they were most excited to tout: former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, who will headline the private fundraiser’s host committee with her husband, former Maine Gov. John McKernan.
“Even at this late stage of the game, with all the negative campaigning going on out there, she is still supporting the governor,” said LePage’s political advisor, Brent Littlefield.
The exact details of the Lewiston event with Christie are undisclosed at this time, but Littlefield said he expects a public appearance with LePage and Christie will also take place on Oct. 14.
