Maine secretary of state sets Sanford race recount for Nov. 13

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap’s office will hold a Nov. 13 recount after unofficial Tuesday election results separated two Sanford legislative candidates by just 14 votes.

By that count, the seat in House District 19 was won by Republican Matthew Harrington. But a recount was requested by Democrat Jean Noon, who sought to replace her husband, Bill Noon, who died in July. Harrington had 768 votes to Noon’s 754.

Dunlap’s office said Friday that the manual recount will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 at the Maine Department of Public Safety’s building at 5 Commerce Drive in Augusta. It’s a public proceeding, and it requires the Maine State Police to collect and secure all ballots until the recount is over.
